And Sarah Martin, 16 years old, unmarried, listed as visitor, occupation beatster, born in Pakefield.[2]

    1871 England Census – Pakefield Street called High Street. Listed as Beer Shop. Occupied by Rachel Lincoln, a widow, 75 years old, a beer seller, born in Kirkley. Also in the property; Charity Martin, unmarried, 19 years old, listed as lodger, no occupation, born in Pakefield.[4]

    1881 England Census – Called Trowel and Hammer Inn. Occupied by George W Colby, head, married, 35 years old, Beer Retailer, born in Kirkley. Also in in the property; Imogene Colby, wife, 41 years old, born in Pakefield, Amy Colby, 10 years old, born in Kirkley, Mildred Colby, 5 years old, born in Pakefield, George W Colby, 3 years old, born in Pakefield.[6]

    About the Pub

    Busy split level bar with good views from garden over cliffs onto beach and a cosy fire in winter months. Food is served in a separate restaurant area at the rear of the pub. Breakfast is also available.

    Historic Interest
